📦 Distinctive feature

The main air gateway to the Hawaiian Islands, the airport handles interisland, domestic and international flights. It shares runways and taxiways with Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam and features the distinctive Reef Runway, built on reclaimed land and opened in 1977. Its facilities also include Hawaiian, Chinese and Japanese cultural gardens.

Transportation and ground access

The airport is located west of Downtown Honolulu, with road access via H-1 Freeway and Nimitz Highway. Main transportation options include taxis, app-based ride services, Skyline rail, TheBus, shuttles, private transfers and rental cars.

Authorized taxis operate from the center medians outside the baggage claim areas of the terminals. Service is coordinated by AMPCO Express, whose dispatchers organize vehicle pickups at designated locations.

Uber and Lyft also serve the airport. At Terminal 1, pickup is located near Baggage Claim 6; at Terminal 2, designated pickup areas are in the medians across from Baggage Claims 19–20 and 31. These locations are identified by Ride App Pickup signs.

The airport is connected to Skyline, Honolulu’s urban rail system. Lelepaua – Daniel K. Inouye International Airport Station is located between International Parking Garage and Terminal 2 Parking Garage, with access from street level and pedestrian walkways connected to the parking structures.

Skyline connects the airport with different parts of Oʻahu and provides transfers to TheBus services. Trains have designated luggage spaces, and passengers use a HOLO card, available from ticket machines at the stations.

The free Wiki Wiki shuttle provides transportation between the rail station and the airport terminals. Routes, schedules and connections are available on the official Skyline website.

TheBus provides public transportation between the airport and destinations across Oʻahu. Route W connects with Downtown Honolulu, Kakaʻako, Ala Moana Center and Waikīkī, while Route 42 provides nighttime connections toward ʻEwa Beach and limited service toward Waikīkī. The bus stop is located on Ala Onaona Street, near Lelepaua Station and the lei stands.

Passengers can pay with cash or a HOLO card, which also provides access to Skyline and transfers between the two systems under the applicable fare rules. TheBus allows suitably sized luggage that can be kept with the passenger without blocking aisles or occupying other seats.

On-demand shuttle services, including Roberts Hawaii Express Shuttle, also provide transfers to hotels and other destinations on Oʻahu. Public transportation routes, schedules and conditions are available on the official TheBus website.

The airport has a Consolidated Rental Car Facility (CONRAC), a five-story building housing the main rental car companies. The facility is located across from Terminal 2, with pedestrian access from nearby baggage claim areas. Rental counters are on Level 2.

Passengers arriving at Terminal 2 can walk to the CONRAC by following airport signage. Free shuttles connect the other terminals with the rental car facility.

The free shuttles operate between the terminals and the CONRAC, with designated stops in the ground transportation areas.

🚝 Transportation between terminals

The free Wiki Wiki shuttle connects Terminals 1, 2 and 3 with the Skyline rail station using buses that operate throughout the airport complex. Stops are marked in the designated ground transportation areas of each terminal. Passengers can also walk between Terminals 1 and 2.

Within the boarding areas of Terminals 1 and 2, additional Wiki Wiki buses, open-air electric trams and courtesy electric vehicles help passengers travel between gates and more distant sections. Service availability depends on the route and operating hours.
