Transportation and ground access
Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport is located southwest of Detroit and has direct road access from I-94 and I-275. There is no rail station integrated into the terminals, so the main ground transportation options include taxis, app-based ride services, regional buses, shuttles and rental cars.
At McNamara Terminal, taxis operate from the Ground Transportation Center, while app-based ride services, including Uber and Lyft, use the designated rideshare area on Level 4 of the McNamara Parking Garage.
At Evans Terminal, the rideshare area is located on Level 1 of the Big Blue Deck.
Ground Transportation and Rideshare signage guides passengers from the baggage claim areas to the appropriate pickup points.
Detroit Air Xpress (DAX) provides a direct connection between the airport and Downtown Detroit.
SMART operates services to Detroit and surrounding suburbs. These include Route 125 and FAST Michigan Route 261, which serve both terminals, while Route 280 serves Evans Terminal.
Michigan Flyer and AirRide provide connections to Ann Arbor and other destinations in central and southeastern Michigan.
At Evans Terminal, buses use the Ground Transportation Center. At McNamara Terminal, bus stops are located on the Departures Level near Door 1.
Rental counters are not located inside the terminals. After collecting their baggage, passengers should follow signs for Ground Transportation and use the free shuttles connecting McNamara Terminal and Evans Terminal with the rental car facilities.
Transportation between terminals
The airport has two main passenger terminals, McNamara Terminal and Evans Terminal, located in separate areas of the airport complex.
A free shuttle service connects the Ground Transportation Centers at both terminals and also stops at the Westin Hotel adjacent to McNamara Terminal. Vehicles operate approximately every ten minutes.
Within McNamara Terminal, the ExpressTram runs along Concourse A and serves three stations: South, Terminal and North. The system is used only for transportation within Concourse A and does not connect McNamara Terminal with Evans Terminal.
A major connecting airport in the U.S. Midwest, with two separate passenger terminals and an extensive McNamara Terminal designed to handle a high volume of domestic and international connections.
