Transportation and getting around
The airport is located in eastern Mexico City, with road access via Circuito Interior and other major urban roads. Transportation options to the city center and surrounding destinations include authorized taxis, the Metro, Metrobús, intercity buses and rental cars. Available services and pickup locations vary by terminal.
Passengers must purchase their taxi service at an official counter before boarding. Fares depend on the destination and type of service. Designated taxi pickup areas are signposted outside both terminals.
Terminal 2 does not have direct access to Terminal Aérea station. Hangares station, also on Line 5, is relatively close to Terminal 2 but requires an additional walk outside the airport. Another option is to transfer to Terminal 1 and use Terminal Aérea station.
• Metrobús Line 4: the Quetzalcóatl route connects the airport with the TAPO bus terminal, Mexico City’s Historic Center and Paseo de la Reforma. It serves both airport terminals and provides a convenient public transportation option for these destinations. Boarding points may change during construction work; signposted locations include Gate 7 at T1 and Gate 4 at T2.
• Intercity buses: services connect the airport with destinations outside central Mexico City and nearby cities, operated by companies such as ADO and Caminante. At T1, the bus terminal is on the first level of the international area. At T2, it is located near Gate 4, close to domestic arrivals.
For trips to the Historic Center or Reforma, Metrobús is generally more convenient than intercity buses, which primarily serve destinations outside the city.
If you plan to use a ride-hailing app, check the designated meeting point before requesting your trip. You may need to walk to a permitted pickup location outside the official taxi boarding areas.
For passengers who prefer to leave directly from the arrivals areas, booking an authorized taxi at an official counter is the most straightforward option.
• Terminal 1: public areas near domestic and international arrivals.
• Terminal 2: international arrivals area, near the banking facilities.
Vehicles are collected and returned at locations designated by each rental company. If you book in advance, confirm the terminal and pickup point, especially if your flight arrives at a different terminal from the rental office.
Getting between terminals
Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 are separate buildings, and passengers need transportation to travel between them. There are two main options:
• Aerotrén: a free elevated train available to passengers with a valid flight ticket, reservation or boarding pass. Access points are near Gate 6 at T1 and Gate 4 at T2. It operates for most of the day but does not run throughout the night.
• Interterminal Metrobús: a bus service connecting T1 and T2 within the airport grounds. It is open to the general public, does not require a boarding pass and operates as a paid service. It is an alternative for visitors and passengers who cannot use the Aerotrén.
If you have a connecting flight departing from another terminal, allow enough time for the transfer and any required security or immigration procedures.
Airport facilities
Luggage storage
The airport offers luggage storage services in both terminals, accessible from public areas and operating 24 hours a day.
• Terminal 1: luggage storage facilities on the ground floor, near the arrivals areas.
• Terminal 2: Viajes Kokai luggage storage on the ground floor, in the public arrivals area.
These services allow passengers to leave suitcases for a few hours or during a layover without carrying them around the city.
Hotels near the airport
The airport has hotels inside its terminals and nearby accommodation connected by pedestrian walkways, making them convenient for overnight layovers and early morning departures.
At Terminal 1, the Hilton Mexico City Airport is located on the building’s third level. Other options include Courtyard by Marriott Mexico City Airport, with access from T1, and Camino Real Aeropuerto, connected to the terminal by a pedestrian walkway.
At Terminal 2, the NH Collection Mexico City Airport T2 is located within the terminal complex. Passengers arriving at T1 should allow time to transfer between terminals before reaching this hotel.
