Transportation and ground access

Newark Liberty International Airport is located west of New York City and has road and public transportation connections with New Jersey, Newark and Manhattan. Main ground transportation options include taxis, app-based ride services, NJ Transit and Amtrak trains, buses, shuttles and rental cars.

Authorized taxis are available at all three terminals and use designated official taxi stands.

App-based ride services, including Uber and Lyft, use specific pickup areas depending on the terminal.

At Terminal A, pickup is on the Arrivals Level across the roadway from the terminal.

At Terminal B, vehicles pick up passengers on the Arrivals Level along the terminal frontage.

At Terminal C, the rideshare pickup area is located on Level 3 of the Terminal C Garage.

The airport is connected to the regional rail network through Newark Liberty International Airport Train Station.

NJ Transit and Amtrak serve the station, providing connections to Newark, New York City and other destinations along the Northeast Corridor.

AirTrain provides transportation between the rail station and the airport terminals.

AirTrain connects directly with Terminal B and Terminal C, as well as Parking P4, hotel shuttle areas, the Rental Car Center and the rail station.

Terminal A is not currently connected directly to the AirTrain system at the terminal building. From Terminal A Station, passengers must either walk for approximately 15 minutes along a covered walkway or use a free shuttle for the remaining journey to the terminal.

AirTrain is free for travel within the airport. Passengers using it to access NJ Transit or Amtrak services pay the applicable rail fare associated with their journey.

The airport is served by bus services to Manhattan and several destinations across New Jersey.

Newark Airport Express connects all three terminals with Midtown Manhattan, with stops at Grand Central Terminal, Bryant Park and Port Authority Bus Terminal.

NJ Transit also operates several local and regional routes, including routes 28, 37, 62, 67 and 107, providing connections to Newark and other New Jersey communities.

Bus stops are located in designated ground transportation areas at the terminals.

Most rental car companies operate from the Rental Car Center, located on Levels 1 through 3 of the Terminal A Parking Garage.

From Terminal A, passengers can walk to the Rental Car Center by following airport signage.

From Terminal B and Terminal C, passengers should take AirTrain to Terminal A Station and then follow signs to the rental car facilities.

🚆 Transportation between terminals

The airport has three main passenger terminals: Terminal A, Terminal B and Terminal C.

AirTrain provides transportation between Terminal B and Terminal C and also connects with parking facilities, hotel shuttle areas, the Rental Car Center and the airport rail station.

Terminal A is not directly connected to the terminal building by AirTrain. Passengers using Terminal A Station must complete the journey either on foot along a covered walkway or by shuttle.

United Airlines also operates selected post-security shuttle services between Terminal A, Terminal C and certain gates in Terminal B, allowing some connecting passengers to transfer without passing through security again.
