Flight departures and arrivals
Check real-time flight status at Philadelphia Airport (PHL). Review schedules and possible delays before heading to the terminal or arranging your transportation.
Philadelphia International Airport is one of American Airlines’ major hubs and an important gateway for its transatlantic network. Its seven terminals are connected beyond security, with free shuttle buses serving the more distant areas, while SEPTA’s Airport Line provides a direct rail connection to downtown Philadelphia.
Ground transportation
The airport is located southwest of downtown Philadelphia, with road access via Interstate 95 and other major routes. Transportation options include taxis, Uber and Lyft, regional rail, public buses, private transfers and rental cars.
Trips to Center City Philadelphia, the city’s central business district, are subject to a flat fare within the boundaries established by the local transportation authority. Trips to other destinations are metered, with any applicable surcharges.
Uber and Lyft use Zone 7, also located along South Commercial Road near baggage claim. Passengers should confirm their assigned pickup location and vehicle details in the app.
Limousine and private car services have separate designated pickup areas. Travelers should use official transportation zones and avoid unsolicited offers.
Pickup locations and service information are available on the official PHL taxi and limousine information page.
Trains generally run every 30 minutes, with service operating from early morning until approximately midnight. Schedules may vary depending on the day and operating conditions.
The airport has four rail stations:
- Terminal A-East: also serves passengers traveling to or from Terminal A-West.
- Terminal B: connected to the terminal by pedestrian walkways.
- Terminals C and D: a shared station serving both terminals.
- Terminal E: also serves passengers using Terminal F.
The stations are connected to the terminal buildings by clearly marked walkways and provide accessibility features.
Current routes, schedules and fares are available on the official SEPTA website.
Routes serving the airport include:
- Route 37: connections to South Philadelphia.
- Route 108: service to 69th Street Transportation Center and other destinations west of Philadelphia.
- Route 115: connections to Suburban Square in Ardmore and nearby communities.
SEPTA buses use Zone 1, located outside the baggage claim areas of Terminals A-East, B, C, D and E. Passengers traveling through Terminal F can reach these stops from Terminal E.
Hotel shuttles, off-airport parking buses and prearranged transportation services are also available, with pickup areas marked throughout the ground transportation zones.
Current routes and schedules can be checked on the official SEPTA website.
Passengers should proceed to Zone 2 on Arrivals Road, outside baggage claim, and board the shuttle operated by their rental car provider.
Companies listed in the airport’s official directory include Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National and SIXT. Peer-to-peer vehicle rentals through Turo are also available, with separate pickup procedures.
Company shuttles take passengers to their respective rental facilities. Travelers should confirm counter hours, reservation conditions and vehicle return instructions before their trip.
Participating companies and access instructions are listed on the official PHL rental car information page.
Connections between terminals
Philadelphia International Airport has seven terminal buildings: A-West, A-East, B, C, D, E and F. All are connected by indoor walkways within the airport’s secure area.
Passengers can walk between terminals without going through security again, provided they remain airside. Walking distances can be considerable, particularly when connecting to or from Terminal F.
To make transfers easier, the airport operates a free airside shuttle bus service between Terminal F, near Gate F14, and stops near Gates C16 and A1. This service reduces walking distances between the farthest terminal areas.
Passengers arriving on international flights who must clear immigration, customs and baggage claim may need to go through security again before boarding a connecting flight.
