📦 Distinctive feature

Chicago Midway has a compact terminal complex with three connected concourses: A, B, and C. The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) Orange Line station is located next to the terminal and connected to it by a covered walkway, allowing passengers to reach downtown Chicago by train without relying on a car.

Ground Transportation

The airport is integrated into Chicago’s urban area and has road connections to major city routes. Transportation options include taxis, app-based rides, public trains and buses, shuttle services, and rental cars.

Authorized taxis pick up passengers on the lower level of the terminal, along the inner curb of the ground transportation area. The official taxi stand is accessed through Door 2 by following the airport signs.

Fares are metered and depend on the route, distance, and traffic conditions. To avoid unauthorized services, passengers should use the designated taxi stands and decline offers from drivers approaching them outside these areas.

Uber and Lyft also operate at Midway. Their pickup locations are in designated areas on the lower level, identified by signs and zone letters. Passengers should check the pickup location assigned in their app before proceeding to their vehicle.

Limousine services, suburban taxis, and private transfers are also available, some of which require advance reservations.

Pickup locations and passenger guidance are available on the official Midway taxi and rideshare information page.

The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) Orange Line connects the airport with downtown Chicago and the central business district known as The Loop. The journey to downtown typically takes approximately 20 to 25 minutes, depending on service conditions.

The station is located east of the terminal building, within the Midway Transportation Center, and is connected to the airport by a covered walkway. Follow the signs marked CTA Trains or Trains to City.

The Orange Line connects with other Chicago rail lines, allowing passengers to continue to neighborhoods and destinations throughout the city.

When trains are not operating overnight, alternative bus services are available, including the N62 Archer route. Schedules and service conditions may change.

Current route information, schedules, and fares are available on the official CTA website.

The Midway Transportation Center also serves as a hub for public bus services operating to and from the airport.

CTA buses connect Midway with several parts of Chicago. Routes serving the airport area include 47, 54B, 55, 55A, 55N, 62N, 62H, 63, and 63W, providing connections to residential neighborhoods and other parts of the city’s transportation network.

Pace buses provide additional connections to suburbs across the Chicago metropolitan area. Their routes serve nearby communities and connect passengers with other parts of the regional transit network.

Regional bus services, shuttles operated by off-airport parking facilities, and hotel transfer services are also available. Pickup locations vary by operator and are identified by airport signage.

Passengers can check routes and schedules on the official CTA and Pace websites.

Chicago Midway has a consolidated rental car facility located outside the terminal building at 5150 W. 55th Street. The facility houses several major rental car companies.

Operators serving the airport include Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, and Corporate Rent A Car.

Passengers can reach the rental car facility using the designated shuttles from the terminal’s lower level. Follow the signs for Rental Car Shuttles. These buses connect the main terminal with the facility where rental vehicles are picked up and returned. The exact shuttle stop should be confirmed using the airport’s current signage.

This arrangement centralizes rental car operations away from the passenger terminal and helps reduce vehicle traffic around the terminal access roads.

Further details about access and available rental companies can be found on the official Midway rental car information page.

🚶 Terminal and Concourse Connections

Chicago Midway has one main terminal building and three passenger concourses, designated A, B, and C. The terminal contains airline check-in counters, security checkpoints, and the baggage claim area.

The three concourses are connected by indoor walkways. Passengers on domestic flights can move between these areas without going through security screening again, provided they remain within the secure area of the airport.

The main parking garage is adjacent to the terminal and connected to the building by pedestrian walkways. The CTA Orange Line station is located at the Midway Transportation Center, east of the terminal, and can be reached via a covered walkway.
